Most semi-automatic transmissions are based on conventional manual transmissions, but are usually operated with an automatic clutch or another kind of partially automated transmission mechanism. Similarly, most motorcycles with a semi-automatic transmission are not fitted with a conventional clutch lever on the handlebar.
